Flow - Try Being a Cat in a World Surrounded by Water

It's been a while since I've decided to actually sit down and make a review of a recent film I've watched and just so happens Flow was the one to get me out of that slump! (i would have had another one but my inspiration for that went down the drain, so oh well) After catching a glimpse of this movie's trailer thanks to YT's algorithm, I just had to search if they were going to show it in cinemas here in Barcelona where I'm currently based in, turns out it wasn't distributed in their mainstream cinemas but thank god they've got indie film features here which I managed to get a ticket for:

no popcorn here peeps but oh well, the better to enjoy a fillm right? 🥲

With that said here's the trailer that I managed to find again, though it might be restricted to some countries idk...

To start off, seeing the first parts of that trailer gave me back that nostalgia from playing Stray and I'm a real sucker for any cat-centric form of media so I just had to watch this one, add the fact this movie had entirely no form of dialogue whatsoever yet it didn't take way from the characters portraying their 'emotions' on screen. Each of their behavior as animals seem quite spot on as well as the sounds our feline protagonist makes.

And dynamic wise, it was a good idea for the capybara to be the first one our feline friend meets 'cuz if you've been around socmed, you know these large rodents are hella chill:

Of course there's always a good boi in the batch and our golden retreiver is the loyalest of them all 🥰, though I really have to question if all lemurs are like King Julian from that Madagascar movie 'cuz they've got the same one here in this film 🤨

Also without giving too much away, the symbolism that surrounded our secretary bird and the whale provided such a heart-wrenching twist that was back-dropped with the most vivid of colors and effects! The underwater scene reminded me also of the Abzu game with how the fishes were bursting with color. Making up for the lack of dialogue is the music score, and I'm not really one who pays attention to that, but since there was no dialogue, you can feel the beat of a scene when our characters are in trouble or just enjoying the moment really.

Overall, a masterpiece that should have been distributed in more cinemas, definitely worth adding into your movie library for a rewatch, and cuddle with your furbaby while your at it!
